After spending the first part of my career working for various supervisors and CEO’s in different settings, I realized who I really wanted to work for: you, the patient. I explored different practices and hospitals. Practices aimed towards surgical specialites were too specific to benefit the patients I know require a broad spectrum of care. Hospitals delivered care in multiple layers that became too watered down to address the complexity of each individual patient. These options seemed far removed from my goal of focusing on you. That’s why I founded ReAbility MD. ReAbility MD is a physician led Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) practice dedicated to you: your symptoms, your problems, your diagnoses, and how they’re impacting you. Together, we develop the right plan for you to reach your functional, rehabilitation, and overall healthcare goals. ReAbility MD provides the full spectrum of PM&R care to address your symptoms and medical problems that are limiting your function and preventing you from reaching your healthcare goals. You can expect expert recommendations and treatment for conditions including musculoskeletal problems, ranging from an acute knee injury or chronic low back pain to often overlooked pelvic pain; brain injury, such as concussion, stroke, or the effects of a remote injury on the ageing brain; and management of obesity.
Here at ReAbility MD, my goal is your goal, and we meet you where you’re at. That means appointment availability both in the office and on line. But, more importantly, it also means finding out where you are in your journey to achieve your healthcare goal. Whether you are just starting to explore different options for your low back pain that is starting to ache more, or you’ve achieved changes such as exercising regularly but now need more assistance to reach a healthy weight, I’ll meet you where you’re at and we will figure out the next steps together. When you take that first step, you can expect ReAbility MD will help make the next step and every step after a little easier. That starts with our streamlined registration process that empowers you to self schedule online (no more pressing ‘0’ hoping to talk to the right person!) and allows you to upload your information, including your insurance, directly from your phone, at your convenience – not ours. The practice also utilizes technology to streamline everything from the check in process to prescription pick up: no more worrying about losing a prescription or an order. But you don’t have to worry about technology getting in between you and your care. Instead, technology is leveraged to enhance your care and help you achieve your healthcare goals.
Your care won’t be just about technology though. Your care will be implemented according to the most up to date guidelines. But it won’t be a
cookbook approach. Instead, together we will combine a thoughtful discussion of your symptoms and history with a comprehensive physical
exam to develop your care plan from a spectrum of tools, ranging from well tested treatments, such as medications and therapies, to research based innovations, such as injections and cutting edge modalities like shockwave. The most important component of your care will always be you. By taking the initiative to explore about your options and learn about your care, you’ve already started your journey. Together we will commit to the changes necessary to elevate your care. Together we will take the next step towards your healthcare goal.

We have many great testimonies from patients who have met with Dr. O’Connor who are very happy with achieving their healthcare goals
Hi! I’m happy you’re here. I’m Dr. Bethany O’Connor. I was born and raised in Ohio where I attended both undergrad and medical school at the University of Toledo. Then, I moved to Chicago to complete my residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (now Shirley Ryan Abilitylab) through Northwestern University. Following residency, I settled in sunny southern California with my growing family.
After spending several years honing my skills and gaining experience in a variety of settings with a broad spectrum of patients, I realized that the best way to provide a personalized approach to treating patients to help them reach their unique goals was by opening my own clinic: ReAbility MD. I am passionate that treating my patient, you, the way you deserve to be treated is the best approach to help you achieve your healthcare goals. I work with you to help you define your goals, then empower you to reach those goals. It takes hard work and dedication – from both of us – to make that journey together.
My approach includes meeting you where you are and learning about your symptoms, and how those symptoms are impacting your day to day function. Then, I utilize a careful physical exam to help develop your diagnosis. Together, we then create a treatment plan centered on you and your goals. This approach includes providing education regarding the root cause of your symptoms and diagnosis, which has been shown to help decrease pain symptoms and shorten recovery time. After all, the word “doctor” comes from the Latin word docere, which means “to teach”. It is also important to me to maintain my ongoing commitment to my own education to best serve you.
I have obtained board certifications in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine, both of which require ongoing pursuit of new knowledge in emerging research and technology to maintain. Additionally, I will shortly also be taking the exam to become board certified in Obesity Medicine. I have experience in a broad range of symptoms and diagnoses, ranging from musculoskeletal problems – such as chronic back pain, joint pain, and acute injuries, to neurological impairments – including neuropathies, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis. I also have a special and personal interest in helping patients overcome the challenges associated with obesity and its impact on symptoms and function, as well as overall health and wellness.
I believe that what happens in my clinic should help you live a better life outside the clinic. This applies to me, as well. Outside of clinic, you’ll find me spending time with my husband and three kids (and dog!), and volunteering in the community. I also love to spend as much time outdoors as possible enjoying our incredible scenery while hiking, cycling, kayaking, or paddleboarding. I appreciate both music and cooking. I also golf, badly.
